Recently, we renewed the certification of our Carbon Footprint for 2023, successfully audited by Tecnalia in September. Once again, we have managed to reduce our environmental impact, with a continuous decrease in GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions since 2019.
But how did we achieve this? Keep reading, and we will explain step by step the measures we have taken.
Key measures to reduce the carbon footprint
We are convinced that sustainability is a long-term commitment and that these achievements are just the beginning of an ongoing journey. However, this journey involves many small steps, often unnoticed.
-
Designing and manufacturing efficient products
Energy efficiency is key. The use of our luminaires and fans constitutes a significant part of the product lifecycle and its emissions. Improving product energy efficiency also reduces energy consumption in homes and businesses, while minimizing environmental impact.
-
Sustainable materials with a lower carbon footprint
Certified wood, bioplastics, recycled plastics... Choosing low-impact and lighter materials has been essential.
Additionally, we continue to promote the use of spare parts and components that extend the lifespan of products. The longer a product lasts, the less frequently it needs to be replaced, which fosters reduced consumption.
-
Modular design
Eco-design is essential for reducing the environmental impact of a product. The implementation of modular products allows us to optimize space for storage and transportation, thus reducing the carbon footprint associated with logistics.
-
Recycling systems and ease of disassembly
We all know the importance of recycling, but few realize that not all products are recyclable.
On our part, we ensure that the products we design can be easily disassembled at the end of their lifecycle. This facilitates the recycling of their components, contributing to a circular economy.
-
Sustainable packaging
We package our products with recyclable materials and no staples, using cardboard, paper, and biodegradable bags, ensuring environmentally responsible packaging.
-
Green energy and renewable energy production
The installation of solar panels at our Castellbisbal work center and the use of green energy allow us to further reduce our operational emissions.
-
Embracing virtual solutions
Remote work is now part of a new normal, contributing to reducing our carbon footprint while improving employee well-being.
We have also reduced attendance at in-person events and business trips, supporting other forms of virtual collaboration.
Result: year-on-year emissions reduction
Our efforts have paid off: in 2023, our total GHG emissions stood at 20,998 tons of CO2 equivalent, representing a significant reduction from 25,836 tons in 2019. In total, the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2019 is 18.73%.
