Until 25 January 2026, the Disseny Hub Barcelona is hosting Art (D)éco 1925 | 2025. Design, mirror of the decorative arts, an exhibition that brings into dialogue two eras separated by a century. Curated by the Fomento de las Artes y del Diseño (FAD) together with Pedro Azara, this showcase commemorates one hundred years of Catalan participation in the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, offering a critical yet hopeful look at the present. And there, among pieces that speak of yesterday and tomorrow, we took part with a proposal that connects us to our relationship with the planet.
The exhibition brings together 200 objects and projects that build a portrait of today’s material culture, in contrast to the roaring twenties that witnessed the birth of Art Déco. In this journey between past and future, design becomes a tool for reflection in the face of the challenges that traverse us: the climate crisis, geopolitical changes, loss of local material references and the impact of accelerated digitalisation. Against this backdrop, a new productive paradigm emerges: more conscious, more local, more sustainable.

In this highly relevant context, our collections Tierra, Mar and Aire, designed by Héctor Serrano, National Design Award 2024, form part of the exhibition. A project born with a clear intention: to democratise large‑scale 3D printing by integrating it as an industrial process to manufacture luminaires, and most importantly, with the purpose of producing ever more sustainable products and contribute to circularity. The collection carries a reivindicative character that fully aligns with the spirit of this exhibition. In the words of its designer: “Nature does not generate waste, we must learn from it and move towards ever more circular and sustainable production.”
Material culture in 2025 is no longer merely an aesthetic expression, but a political and conscious act. Through design, we transform the environment and project ourselves towards a more just future. This exhibition is more than a tribute to design: a mirror that reflects our present thinking.
Art (D)éco 1925 | 2025. Design, mirror of the decorative arts is open for visits until 25 January 2026, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 to 20 h at Disseny Hub Barcelona.
