A new Sercotel under the vision of Paolo Mauri

The hotels Sercotel Amistad Murcia and Sercotel Sorolla Palace in Valencia, two iconic hotels in the heart of their cities, have been completely renovated by architect Paolo Mauri.

Sercotel Amistad Murcia: spaces that invite you to stay

Paolo Mauri has successfully created a design at Sercotel Amistad Murcia that blends references to the Murcian wine-growing regions with a fresh and contemporary aesthetic. This project has not only transformed its 148 rooms but has also redefined the guest experience by combining modernity and functionality in every corner.

The main goal of the renovation was to enhance natural light and provide a welcoming experience. The rooms at Sercotel Amistad Murcia, once dark and saturated with outdated materials—everyone remembers that glossy cherry wood, so common in the decor of previous decades—have been transformed. Paolo Mauri chose a palette of natural tones ranging from sand to stone, evoking a much more organic and natural atmosphere.

Continuing with this decorative theme, the headboard was complemented by an illuminated molding that highlights its horizontal lines, creating a sense of intimacy typical of any bedroom where you want to relax. Now, imagine waking up in this room: what could be better than not having to sit up to turn on a warm light from the bed? Our Fold wall lights, timeless and functional, integrate switches into their structure at the headboard height, making them easy to use.

As a final touch, our Guadalupe floor lamp, with its beige shade contrasting with its structure and in harmony with the room's color palette, adds an extra level of sophistication and presence to the room's decor. Every corner invites tranquility and rest.

Getting rid of the old to make way for the contemporary

Paolo Mauri has worked to create an environment that invites exploration of the hotel. The hallways, which were once cold and impersonal, have been transformed into warm and welcoming corridors thanks to the wine-colored columns. The Eres white wall lights integrate perfectly with their minimalist design, providing a soft light that guides guests along their way without being visually intrusive.

In the dining area, the transformation is even more striking. The ceiling, once dull, now features a textured raffia-like paper covering, with oak moldings that add a unique visual rhythm. The prominent presence and terracotta finish of the Saigon pendant lamps highlight the wine-colored details, a clear nod to the region's wine heritage. Here, the experience goes beyond the cuisine; it is a complete sensory journey.

Sercotel Sorolla Palace Hotel: a journey between past and future

The iconic Sercotel Sorolla Palace Hotel in Valencia, once a 5-star venue, has undergone a profound renovation under the direction of interior designer Paolo Mauri. This project involved the rehabilitation of 271 rooms and the corridors of each floor, tackling the challenge of preserving the existing noble materials while introducing new elements that bring freshness and modernity.

The new bedrooms feature our Tila wall lights, placed on either side of the headboard, providing practical and functional lighting for reading and resting, thanks to their adjustable light and convenient use with the integrated switch in the structure. Additionally, the furniture was custom-designed using materials from Finsa for the nightstands, desk, and minibar cabinet. These pieces were complemented by vinyl upholstery from Vescom, featured in the Even chair by Beltá Frajumar, the Marcela armchair by Casual Solutions, and in the headboard and luggage rack, adding coherence and understated luxury to the ensemble.

The careful selection of materials was crucial in this project. Vescom vinyl wallpaper, specifically the Wutai model in black and sand tones, was used on the walls of the rooms, separated by a black molding that enhances the perception of space height. Paired with our Hoshi table lamp, with black and bronze finishes that perfectly match the color palette, these details help to balance the proportions of the rooms.

In the corridors, a Balsan carpet was chosen, characterized by nature-inspired textures, which not only offers an attractive design but also guarantees durability and easy maintenance. The carpet brings a renewed air to these spaces, which retain the fabric-covered walls and walnut woodwork, integrating perfectly with the new design without losing their original essence.

Paolo Mauri: The architect behind the transformation

The architect responsible for this transformation is Paolo Mauri, an Italian architect trained at the Politecnico di Milano and residing in Madrid since 1997. He began his professional career in the vibrant world of Milanese design, where he specialized in luxury fittings, developing a sober and elegant style that is now his hallmark.

This experience opened the doors to the hotel sector, collaborating with major chains like Meliá Hotels International, where he completed his first European project: the Meliá Milano hotel. Since then, he has left his mark on more than 60 hotel projects worldwide over his 25 years of experience, standing out for his ability to combine functionality and aesthetics in each intervention.

A rebirth that inspires

The renovation work on the Sercotel hotels has been much more than a simple update; it is a metamorphosis that has turned a space that was beginning to show signs of aging into a benchmark of modernity and comfort. Paolo Mauri has skillfully reinterpreted the essence of each hotel, creating an environment that not only meets the expectations of the Sercotel chain but also ensures that these hotels will continue to be a landmark destination in their city for many years to come.
