The studio AD+9 Architecture and Design Masnou, led by architect Mariola Figuerola, has completed the full renovation of a 1965 detached house in El Masnou, Barcelona. With 175 m² spread across two floors, the project focuses on functional and aesthetic modernization, respecting the essence of the house while adapting it to the contemporary needs of a family.
The main challenge was to open up the ground floor, removing load-bearing walls and using an exposed metal structure as a key visual element. This intervention, in addition to ensuring stability, connects the interior with the garden through large windows, maximizing natural light intake. Energy efficiency was another cornerstone of the project, with solutions such as façade insulation, aerothermal systems, and underfloor heating. In this sense, the ceiling fan Alo provides extra comfort and functionality without detracting from the space's aesthetics.

The overall aesthetic of the project combines industrial, Nordic, and minimalist influences, creating a serene, warm, and elegant atmosphere. On the ground floor, where the living room, dining room, and kitchen converge, exposed ceramic vaults, Vives ceramic wood-effect porcelain flooring, and a kitchen with white and oak wood cabinetry, along with a Calacatta-finished porcelain countertop, take center stage.

The lighting complements the house's style with sculptural or minimalist pieces depending on the space. The kitchen-dining room is dominated by two pendant lamps Isabelle, designed by Héctor Serrano. With their undulated glass shades, these light fixtures provide a strong presence and a soft light that enhances the table and atmosphere. The kitchen counter, on the other hand, is illuminated by the Anna lamps, with a minimalist design that provides a subtle touch of light without interfering with the space's character.

The result is a contemporary home, full of light, where the connection between the interior and exterior, the use of noble materials, and the integration of high-quality lighting create a perfect harmony that meets the needs of modern family life.
