And the Red Dot goes to… HOOK

HOOK by OiKo Design for Faro Barcelona has been awarded the Red Dot Design Award 2018, one of the most prestigious design awards.

This award of great international relevance is granted by a multidisciplinary jury made up of 40 experts that takes into account the design and its practicality. Awarded since 1955, the process lasts several days as each product is evaluated independently.

HOOK is one of the punchiest designs of Faro Barcelona. This portable lamp is made of recycled, recyclable and toxic free materials; a luminaire 100% manufactured in Spain from bottle caps for which all phases of the life cycle have been optimised, thus reducing its environmental impact between 30 and 70% compared to an equivalent non-eco-friendly design.

HOOK has stood out among hundreds of candidates from 59 countries from which innovation, functionality, quality, ergonomics, durability, symbolic and emotional content, integration with the environment and degree of environmental respect have been evaluated.

This luminaire in addition to being ecological is characterised by its social character. HOOK aims to close the cycle, is assembled in the El Maresme Foundation that integrates people with disabilities and finally with each lamp sold a child is fed from the Gboidoi Public School in Liberia. This action is carried out by the NGO Mary’s Meals.

HOOK aims to be a global project that takes into account not only pollution and recycling but also the integration and collaboration with organisations that integrate people at risk of exclusion.

After receiving this award, HOOK becomes part of the official yearbook of the Red Dot award winners and will participate in the exhibitions held in its museum in Essen and around the world.
